GENERAL PRESS RELEASE (185 words)
[insert details about the concert time & place]
With lyrical vocals and lively old time acoustic style, Tallgrass Express celebrates the Flint
Hills, taking listeners to a world of stunning landscapes, skilled cowboys and spunky cowgirls,
western romance and humor, runaway horses, Indian buffalo hunts, old trail days, early
abolitionist heroes, and lovely prairie walks among native birds, grasses and wildflowers.
Formed in 2004, the band features rancher-songwriter Annie Wilson of rural Elmdale, named
the “Flint Hills Balladeer” by the Kansas governor in recognition of her many songs about the
Flint Hills landscape and ranch life. Other members include Carl Reed of Manhattan, Jim
Versch of Marion, and Kim Schmidt of Goessel.
Tallgrass Express concerts present the group in their trademark historic western dress,
performing a variety of musical genres: folk, bluegrass, country, western, and blues. All are
interpreted through the group’s tight vocal harmonies and musical skills on fiddle, mandolin,
harmonica, guitar and bass.
The band has now recorded 46 songs on three CD volumes in their all-original “Songs of the
Kansas Flint Hills” series because as member Annie Wilson asserts, “The Flint Hills are worth
singing about!” For more information and music samples, see www.tallgrassexpress.com.
