FLINT HILLS HISTORY & PHOTOS

The heritage of the Flint Hills is fascinating and a key to more fully understanding our present.

IN PROGRESS

Annie Wilson, daughter Katie Hancock, and cousin Jane Cauthorn, are conducting research on the history of their family's ranch and the local area - including historical photos (above).

2025 is the 100th Anniversary of their family on the ranch.

They will give a “Prairie Talk” presentation on the “History of Five Oaks Ranch” * in the afternoon of June 21, 2025,  at Pioneer Bluffs Center for Flint Hills Ranching Heritage.  (*Five Oaks Ranch has also been known as the Browning Ranch, Wiley Ranch, and Fred & Miranda Pracht Homestead.)

Already this project has inspired new “Songs of the Flint Hills"!

CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY

We hope you enjoy Annie's photos on this website, taken by Annie on pasture walks and while working on the ranch.
The beauty of the Flint Hills, both in close-up and distant views, is ever-changing, rewarding and comforting.

The work of other photographers is also sometimes included (see credits), as well as historic photos.
