Ride with Me - Song Page
© words by Annie Wilson, melody from traditional "Canadeeio"
from album Out on the Tallgrass Prairie

Album Note:

This song invites listeners to come on an exhilarating horse ride - galloping over the prairie on a sunny day in spring, racing wind and cloud shadows over grassy waves.

Alongside are rainbows of flowers and darting birds, while above is blue sky with white clouds like ghostly bison of the deep past.

LYRICS

Come away and ride with me.

On our horses we will go.

Cross the prairie we will fly

o’er the hills and meadows.

Our-ponies’ manes will rise and fall

with every length and fearless stride.

Their pounding hooves will play the song

and drum the rhythm of our ride.

Soon the wind will join our race

as it blows and billows by.

We will chase its grassy waves.

Cross the prairie we will fly.

If you will ride with me,

       away we’ll run.

And we will throw our heads

       back to the sun.

And-as-we grip our ponies’ sides,

horse and rider move as one.

Every stride in unison,

‘cross the grassland we will run.

Rainbows of the flowers we’ll see

as the scenes beside us flash,

While the birds dart by our sides

sailing with our wild dash.

High above we’ll see the clouds –

ghosts of bison thund’ring past.

As their shadows trace the ground,

we’ll race them o’er the prairie grass.

CHORUS

SO Come away and ride with me.

On our horses we will go.

Cross the prairie we will fly

O’er the hills and meadows.
